Seattle Washington

Seattle Washington Posted on Saturday, August 18, 2012 9:05 PM Wow! What a quick 9 days! I am headed home after spending 9 glorious days of sunshine in beautiful Seattle Washington. I worked in Burien Washington at the lovely Three Tree Point Bed and Breakfast. I so enjoyed my time with the guests and also "critter sitting" for 3 chickens...Bella, Adora and Red, a bird- Rocky (she's actually a girl), Lilly the cat and Callie the 7 month old German shepherd. The weather was supreme and days at Pike Market were colorful and delicious. I will get home tonight in Atlanta and then head out in the morning for Arrowhead Inn Bed and Breakfast in Durham North Carolina. Seattle Washington

Calling on BnB in Texas

Image
Calling on B&B's in Texas Cathy :  Posted on Saturday, March 3, 2012 12:04 PM We were busy in San Antonio and Corpus Christi Texas last month visiting some local  inns near the Alamo and Riverwalk  to see if they needed our interim inn sitting services. We did stop for some of that delicious Texas BBQ. Here we are at Augie's Barbed Wire Smokehouse. Don't be turned away by the long line out the door...it moves pretty quick and is worth the short wait. Finger lickn' good!

Say....Cheese

Say "Cheese" Posted on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 4:53 PM Check out this yummy tray I served up to visiting guests.... Nice selection of goat cheese and honey rolled in pistachio nuts along with a creamy smoked Gouda.  Double dipped chocolate strawberries too!  Pop the cork and celebrate!

Welcome Spring?

Image
Welcome Spring? Posted on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 9:20 PM Is it really the first day of Spring? Not by the look of this pretty white stuff floating down on the lawns of Bricktown Inn BnB here in Haverstraw New York.  Back home in Georgia everyone is in shorts and sunshine. But, this late snowfall dropped about 5 inches of powder to enjoy.  Well, inside the inn I served up my own bit of Spring. Beautiful bowls filled with fresh strawberries and topped with housemade lemon curd.

Hello Utah!

Image
Welcome to Utah! Posted on Thursday, September 10, 2015 11:00 AM The Torchlight Inn in Park City Utah was a great place to work last month!  The inn was located directly across from Main Street in downtown Park City. With great hikes to explore, free outdoor summer concerts and Kimball Art Show in town, we barely had time to sleep!  But, the breakfast served at this inn was one you did not want to miss ! Your breakfast menu allows you to order any of the 7 different options. The house blend French press coffee is reason enough alone to get up early. We also served espresso, lattes and gourmet hot chocolates.

Trekking Through Thailand

Trekking Through Thailand Posted on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 12:35 PM A place you don't want to miss...Thailand! There is so much to do that you will need more than the two weeks we spent trying to squeeze everything in.  We did many of the touristy things such as floating markets, Thai massages, elephant rides,  night markets,Thai cooking school, temple visits, over night train rides to Chiang Mai and a couple of luxury nights in Bangkok.  Even though the sights, sounds and smells are very enchanting, it's still the personal experiences with new people in a different culture that make a lasting impression

Thankful Heart

Thankful Heart Posted on Monday, November 9, 2015 4:34 PM 'Tis a season full of thanksgiving and counting my blessings. For another new grandson, a roof over my head and food in my belly, wonderful new travel adventures, new inns with new friends and family that surrounds me. I will whisper a prayer, "Thank You Lord"

Bakery Design Work

Image
Bakery Design Work Posted on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 9:43 PM As many of you already know, in between inn sitting assignments, I do like to keep busy learning new skills and new jobs. For the past few months I have been working at a large bakery here in Greenville, SC. I am fortunate to get to help with their gourmet baskets, floral arranging and gift display decorating. Here is a cute basket we put together for upcoming Mothers Day goodies. It is our Queen Bee basket which includes some local raw honey and a fresh baked mini apple pie. This would make an excellent treat to serve to my bed and breakfast guest!

Land of the Waterfalls

Image
Land of the Waterfalls Posted on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 11:04 AM Transylvania County in DuPont Recreational Area North Carolina is a great area to explore right out of our back door. We  recently relocated to Landrum South Carolina where we are living in a new 600 square foot apartment above a  garage. We are currently doing a long term house sitting arrangement with a family that likes to travel and needs care for their pets. It still allows us the ability to do our inn sitting and is very close to family...and grandbabies! This hike to Triple Falls and High Falls was very pleasant even on this hot July day.

Movable Meals

Movable meals Posted on Thursday, October 6, 2016 2:13 PM Movable meals are certainly in season during October.  This was a lovely basket of goodies I put together for a couple at one of the inns where I was working in Seattle.  It included some local goodies found in the area. The Beecher's Cheese and local summer sausage from Dan the Sausage Man where big hits.  Grab a blanket, and a basket filled with your favorites and get outside!

Taking Time to Smell the TULIPS

Taking time to smell the TULIPS Posted on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 9:18 PM Flowers always make people better, happier and more helpful; they are sunshine, food and medicine for the soul..... This was a great big dose of happiness while I was working out in Seattle. Mount Vernon has a beautiful display of  tulips  to explore during their tulip festival in April.

You can always make money.....AFRICA

Image
You can always make money..... Posted on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 8:19 PM You can always make money, but you can't always make memories. That is one motto that has kept us exploring through the years. To kick off  2016, we decided to have a look at South Africa. What a pleasant surprise when we landed in this magnificent country! So much to do and experience! Our first stop was in Johannesburg, then over to Kruger National Park where our sunset safari ride rewarded us with spotting the "BIG 5". We then traveled to one of the most beautiful port cities...Cape Town. There were also picnics at some of the wine vineyards in Stellenbosch, coastal walks in Hermanus, lighthouses on the Southern most tip of Africa and a zillion wonderful seafood dishes to taste.  This is sure one place you will want to add to your bucket list

House Sitting with Pets Down Under

Image
Just returning from Down Under Posted on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 11:41 PM   G'Day Mate! What a great time to travel to Australia. The temperature is mild and the flowers are blooming. Sydney is a beautiful city with its grand bridge and stunning opera house on the Circular Quay. But, we really enjoyed heading down the coastal path of New South Wales towards Narooma. We enoyed 8 days housesitting on 60 rolling acres with sheep, chickens, 2 dogs and a yard full of different Australian bird species. This coastal town is not to be missed if you traveling south out of Sydney. The food was great fun too as we discovered steamed fresh oysters, kangaroo and (shhh) lamb on the BAR-B. Of course we could never eat this cutie! Best of all, were the friendly helpful people we met each day. Outstanding trip and we hope to make it back there again soon.

Life on the road

Life on the road Posted on Monday, October 29, 2012 1:07 AM Ohh...laa...laa...life is sweet if you LOVE to travel like we do! We had a fabulous filled September as we traveled with family to explore Italy, Greece and Croatia. It was fun to retrace a couple of spots that my sisters and I had visited together 16 years ago. It was also a nice treat to explore some new locations too. We all agreed that we enjoyed Dubrovnik, Croatia the best. The food, the fun, the people...so memorable. Of course, our guys said that racing mopeds through the streets of Corfu, Italy and swimming in the Adriatic Sea came it at a close second. Here is shot of me on the beaches of Mykonos, Greece and in Venice, Italy with my favorite travel partner and sweetheart. After returning from the trip, I was lucky enough to work a few days in Mountain City Tennessee at Prospect Hill Bed and Breakfast. Great guests and perfect fall weather. Leaving Mtn. City we traveled over to ...

Biscuits 101

Image
Biscuits 101 Posted on Saturday, August 10, 2013 6:04 PM One of my favorite things about inn sitting, besides meeting the guests, is cooking! I love to learn new dishes or baking recipes to add to my traveling cookbook. I feel very fortunate to live in Atlanta where there are so many opportunities to pursue my culinary endeavors. As a volunteer with Cooks Warehouse, I get plenty of exposure to new cooking ideas and improving my craft. Some classes, like this biscuit 101, offer a focused concentration on one particular item. As a Southern lady, I feel it is my duty to learn how to make a proper Southern biscuit. Now, I have baked many a biscuit before but I have to say they were not worthy of too many bragging rights. How wonderful it is to discover what you have been doing wrong all these years! One of the most important facts I uncovered was about flour. In order to make a true, good, soft, Southern biscuit you need a low protein flour. Thank...

Castle in the Rockies

Image
Castle in the Rockies Posted on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 11:51 AM            Rockies in Canada! Enjoyed viewing the luxury of this beautiful 19th century hotel during the Christmas season. The Banff Springs Hotel was one of the grand railway hotels built in the heart of Alberta Canada in full view of Banff National Park. Great location for exploring the quaint resort community of Banff with their unique shops and local restaurants. Too chilly (-14*F) for hiking, but a short walk in the park was just enough to appreciate the beauty of this frozen wonderland.
